Binadas Sengar
Also known as: — | Race: Tiste Edur | Warren/Affiliation: Kurald EmurlahnSummary
Binadas Sengar is the third son of the Sengar bloodline of the Tiste Edur, brother to Fear, Trull, and Rhulad. A skilled sorcerer and shapeshifter (Soletaken), Binadas is the most magically gifted of the Sengar brothers but also the quietest and most introverted. His story is largely defined by the quest that Hannan Mosag sends the brothers on — the expedition to retrieve the sword that will curse Rhulad and set in motion the Edur invasion of Lether.
Arc by Book
Book 5: Midnight Tides
Binadas participates in the expedition with his brothers to find the sword of power. His Soletaken abilities — he can take the form of a sea creature — prove valuable during the journey. Binadas is perceptive enough to sense that something is deeply wrong with the quest, but like all the Sengar brothers, he is caught in the tide of events set in motion by Hannan Mosag and the Crippled God.
After Rhulad's death and resurrection, Binadas — like Fear and Trull — must navigate the new reality of a brother-emperor who is increasingly mad. His magical abilities make him valuable to the Edur war effort during the invasion of Lether, but his growing discomfort with Rhulad's transformation mirrors the broader Sengar family tragedy. At the climax of Midnight Tides, during the confrontation at the Eternal Domicile, Binadas is left unconscious but alive by the Ceda's sorcery.
Book 7: Reaper's Gale
Binadas commands a Tiste Edur ship in the Nascent when Karsa Orlong — hunted by the Edur as a potential champion — boards it and slaughters the crew. Binadas is pinned to his command chair by a spear thrown by Karsa, and dies there. His death is not treachery but an open act of war.
