Olar Ethil

Also known as: The Bonecaster, First Bonecaster | Race: T'lan Imass (Soletaken — skeletal dragon) | Warren/Affiliation: Tellann, Elder magic

Summary

Olar Ethil is the most ancient of all T'lan Imass bonecasters and the architect of the Ritual of Tellann — the sorcerous rite that transformed the Imass into their undead forms to wage eternal war against the Jaghut. She is a Soletaken whose veered form is a massive skeletal dragon. Ruthless, manipulative, and utterly convinced of her own righteousness, Olar Ethil pursues agendas stretching back hundreds of thousands of years. In the final books she emerges as a major antagonist, seeking to reclaim control over the T'lan Imass and pursuing Onos T'oolan and his mortal family with terrifying single-mindedness.

Arc by Book

Book 9: Dust of Dreams

Olar Ethil manifests in the mortal world as a skeletal, desiccated figure of immense power. She pursues Onos T'oolan — now mortal, having reclaimed his flesh — and his wife Hetan and their children. Her agenda involves reclaiming the T'lan Imass for a renewed war and reasserting her authority as the originator of the Ritual. She is willing to use, threaten, and destroy anyone in her path. She clashes with other ancient powers and manipulates events across the Lether-Kolanse theatre.

Book 10: The Crippled God

Olar Ethil continues her pursuit of T'oolan's children, whom she sees as crucial to her plans. Her ruthlessness brings her into conflict with multiple forces. She is ultimately opposed and brought down — her ancient power insufficient against the accumulated resistance of those who reject her vision. Her defeat represents the rejection of the T'lan Imass's original path of endless war.
