The Crippled God (Kaminsod)
Also known as: Kaminsod, the Chained One, the Fallen One | Race: Alien god | Warren/Affiliation: Chained to the Malazan worldSummary
The Crippled God is the central figure of the entire Malazan Book of the Fallen — the series is named for him. An alien god pulled from his own realm and chained to the Malazan world by jealous Elder Gods, he was shattered on impact and his fragments scattered across continents. His agony poisons the world — corrupting warrens, twisting civilizations, and driving mortals to madness and cruelty. Yet the series' greatest revelation is that he is not simply a villain: he is a victim, a being in unimaginable pain, chained and exploited by those who summoned him. The entire ten-book arc builds toward the question of what should be done with him — destroy him, use him, or show him compassion.
Arc Across the Series
The Crippled God's influence grows through each book: the Pannion Domin (MoI) is powered by his corruption, Rhulad Sengar's cursed sword is his instrument (MT/RG), and he poisons the sleeping goddess Burn. His agents and worshippers appear across every continent. In The Crippled God, Tavore Paran's true purpose is revealed — not to destroy the Chained One but to free him, to send him home. This act of compassion, achieved through the sacrifice of the Bonehunters, is the series' ultimate statement: that mercy, not vengeance, is the answer to suffering.
